Energy Day invites K-12 students and their families to explore science, technology, engineering and math through hands-on exhibits, live demonstrations, and more

HOUSTON – The Energy Day Festival, Houston’s largest free family festival dedicated to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), returns Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sam Houston Park in downtown Houston.

Hosted by the Consumer Energy Education Foundation (CEEF) in partnership with Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA), Energy Day turns the park into a giant outdoor STEM playground. Students, families, and educators can meet energy industry experts, try hands-on experiments, and learn about the many forms of energy that power daily life and the careers that STEM education can lead to.

A few of this year’s attractions include:

  • Future Me Career Quiz: Discover STEM careers that match your interests and see where your skills could take you.
  • Pedal Power: Hop on a bike and see how your own energy can generate electricity.
  • Hydration vs. Reaction: Put science to the test with an interactive experiment exploring hydration and reaction time.
  • Potato Battery: Turn an everyday potato into a power source and learn the basics of how electricity works.
  • Slime Lab: Get hands-on with chemistry by mixing, stretching, and experimenting with slime.

“Energy Day is about making science fun, accessible, and real for students and their families,” CEA President and CEEF Founding Board Member David Holt said. “When young people can launch a rocket, generate electricity, or conduct an experiment themselves, they begin to see how STEM is part of the world around them and the opportunities it can create. We want every student who comes to Energy Day to leave curious, inspired, and excited about what they can do next.”

Energy Day is also the culminating celebration of CEEF’s year-round Energy Day Academic Program (EDAP). Through EDAP, CEEF and its partners run citywide STEM and energy competitions for Houston-area schools. This year, $25,000 in awards will be presented to participating students and educators, who will be recognized for their achievements at the festival.

The event is made possible through the support of American Petroleum Institute, CenterPoint Energy, Chevron, Consumer Energy Alliance, Devon Energy, Sempra Infrastructure, Weatherford International, and many other sponsors and community partners.

Admission is free and open to all. For event details, sponsorship and volunteer opportunities, visit energydayfestival.org.
